The formula for a strong hook:

Platform-specific hook tips:

Instagram

  • Text overlays are KING (most people watch with sound off)
  • First frame needs to be visually interesting
  • You have 1-2 seconds before they swipe

TikTok

  • Audio matters more (but still add captions)
  • Fast paced openings perform better
  • You have 2-3 seconds before they scroll

At the beginning of your video, tease something that won't be revealed until the end. This creates an "open loop" in the viewer's brain, and our brains HATE open loops. We need closure. So they keep watching to get the answer.
